I’ve come to the realization that I’m becoming extremely over-weight. Got sober, hit 32, married, with kids and just overfed over 90lbs in the last two years. I don’t have the time to place in the hours to lose the weight and with a family history of obesity, I’m frightened my kids will have a stout dad.
I’ve always been fit, but, a small pudgy. In high school played football, power lifted, track (2-mile and 1 mile), ran cross- country. Worked out 3-5 hours a day. In adulthood before kids mountain biked 15-30 miles 4-6 day a week. By no means was as ripped as I felt I must have been. Now at 5′8″ 245 I can’t do even simple routines lacking becoming winded.Diabetes and HBP run in the family and I’ve had a total knee reconstruct at age 15 so its by now becoming arthritic.
So now with a comprehensive check-up coming in about a week, I’m curious about having a Lap Band implant. I’ve done a small research but I’d like to hear from some people who may have had the surgery. Did you starve? Longing pains? Is this basically a passive weight loss system (your going to lose the weight with or lacking exercise)? Will I lose weight untill I have the ability to start doing vigorous workouts?
I realize that exercise is the only surefire way to keep weight off but I feel like I need help gettng to that point in life again, and I’m not going to be able to give more than 4-5 hours a week towards that goal. Doing my best to be realistic about this, set me straight if I’m off base please.
