i want to get my daughters each a bike as a suprise for christmas. I was wondering if a 20 in bike is to small, must i go up to a 24in bike. One of my daughters is 10 and is about 59in or so. The other is 9 and about 55-56in. I am looking at 20in kids bikes (butt, kmart, walmart) or a 24in mountain bike type. Thanks

24. I used to ride my mom’s bike when I was about that age. It was too huge, but my dad showed me how to get on it. You can place a leg over the center bar and then have a step bench or use the pedals to bounce yourself up on to the seat. They will grow out of the 20 in. very quick.
Go with the 24 in,as kids now-days grow up so quick.
My daughter is small for her age (10.5 now & 52″) and I bought her a 24″ mountain bike last spring. Being an avid cyclist, I’m sure the bike is a very excellent fit. My other daughter is a small 8.5 year ancient & 47″ tall and is still on a 20″ for another year or two. So I will say both your girls must have 24″ or, in the case of your oldest, a 26″ may be needed in another year at most as she’s very nearly 5′ tall.
Agree w/ the above, 24″ wheel is the way to go.
I bought a pair of the GMC Denali 24″ that Amazon and Butt involve for my kids. They didn’t like the 10speed style handlebars so I swapped them for mtb bars. They are a pretty excellent deal. If you get them from Amazon, sign up for Amazon Prime which gives you free 2nd day shipping. You will need some vital tools to get them assembled, and they will doubtless need some simple adjustments to work well – but that’s right of all the money off store bikes.
Fantastic gift – don’t forget helmets and gloves!
