As with a majority of consumer goods, low end bikes are made in China. Its entirely possible that the two are made by the same people in the same factory with different marks slapped on. Brands don’t mean much any more.
Your friend is only a small bit right.
Iron Horse bikes are designed and sold by World Wide Cycle Supply in Holbrook New York. They are a brand that is exclusive and share small or nothing with the other brands that World Wide designs. They are primarily made in Taiwan at 2 of the largest and most respected bike companies in the world along with bikes like Marin, Trek, and others- Thought Bicycle Co. and Honestly Bicycle Co.
Columbia is also designed at World Wide but is COMPLETELY different, designed by a different team. They are most commonly made in China at Xedacheng Bicycle Company. The name is licensed by Columbia Sportswear to World Wide.
There are only about 3 major manufactures that produce most of the bike frames. The thing you want to look at is what they are putting on those frames. One of the ways to establish quality is where the bike is bought, department store or bike shop.
He could be looking at a sticker that says columbia tubing. That force be why he is saying. Columbia tubing-the frame’s tubes
