I know if I swap out tires on my mtn. bike, I can gain some speed, but what about gears? I don’t know if there’s any appreciable difference.

I’ve always had a mountain bike until possibly soon. I went to the bike store and tried one out. It felt rather weird bending down so low and it felt like my arms were reaching pretty far. The bike was a S and I’m 5′ 3″
Is this just since I’m not used to it or does it not fit me right?

I rode on the Trek 1.1 for very small but it felt awesome. Of course this will be my first “expensive” bike buy. Always have ridden much lower end mountain bikes. The Trek 1.1 looks fantastic and it is going for 599.99 at LBS. Excellent sale. I’ve read fantastic reviews about it. But, I have also read fantastic reviews about the Trek 1.5. This one is going for 899.99. This is a $300.00 difference! Can someone help guide me in the right direction? Is the 1.5 that much better that it’d be value the extra money?
Looking to go back and forth from home to school and also take it out for rides and hopefully get into bicycling. I’m 6′2, 180 lbs. Looking at doubtless a 58 in frame.

I recently started biking and am preparing for a long distance ride with a group. The group is by now more experienced/fit than me. So, it’s understandable that I would have some difficulty maintenance up. But, each member of the group except me has bought a road bike & I’m wedged on a mountain bike until I can afford a road bike. The conundrum is, I am being really left in the dust! The group basically seems to reflect that I just need to push harder, but I honestly feel like I’m pushing as hard as I can – yet, I force as well be standing still…lol. Is a road bike much quicker than a mountain bike? Is is realistic for me to be expected to keep up with a group with road bikes on a mountain bike?
Also, any training tips are welcome…

I am about 5′4-5′5 and i want to get a new road bike, but everywhere i look, i find the road bikes to be made for riders that are 5′7 and above. I dont want a woman’s bike, as my male friends will also be using this bike, rarely but still.

I want the bike to last long journeys, as i will be biking up mountains and i need the tires to last long. And even if the bike is used but in excellent condition i am keen to buy.
If you guys even have a bike for sale, i will look into it as well. I want to get it very soon, in less than 2 weeks, or even less than a week.
