I am originally from Cleveland, Ohio – I like it – but I want to go away for a few years and then go back when i’m ready to have kids. My boyfriend likes mountain biking so it is a must that we go close to excellent mountain bike parks. I am a nursing student so we have to go close to a large medical center.

I’ve been looking for some new leisure activities and mountain biking has really peaked my interest. Mostly down hill. Those guys have serious balls.

Anyway, what are some excellent brands that I must look for when I choose to finally buy a down hill mountain bike? Especially for beginners. It doesn’t have to be something extremely top of the line, just a bike sturdy enough to go shredding on.
And what brands for helmets, pads, etc are pretty excellent?

mountain bike gear are my jumpy gears on my new mountain bike normal or should i be worried?
ive just bought a new mountain bike, a carrera vulcan, I have taken it out twice and im finding that the gears at the back are a bit jumpy and sometimes struggles to get into gear, also jumps up or down a gear when i have not touched the triggers.
someone told me that this can be quite normal for a new bike but just wanted some more feedback on the circumstances, if anyone has any answers your help would be much valued.

I have a 8 year ancient son who wants a “mountain bike” for his birthday. I want to buy a pair of bikes for myself and him to use. I have 15 acres of material goods that I want to use these bikes on. It is mostly flat grassland but there is rough terrain and some 10 to 15-foot hills to ride over. These bikes will not be used on the street. Any suggestions on what type and brand of bikes for beginners(adult and kid)that can be bought reasonably? For occasional use that can take a beating? Thanks for any suggestions.

He’s by now got a nice mountain bike but if we go city center he doesn’t want to leave it parked where pieces can get stolen. I want a midpriced large frame bike (I don’t even know what sizes they come in) that is excellent for riding around with kids in bike seats… (I have a 1985 Schwinn Cruiser)

I have 300 dollars to spend on a mountain bike. What should I look for?

kids mountain bikes I have 300 dollars to spend on a mountain bike. What should I look for?
I used to race BMX and Mountain Bikes competitively when I was a kid but it has been years since biking. I recently was given a free Murray bike which is about the heaviest and junkiest bike I have ever ridden on. I used to ride Cannondale and Trek. Unfortunately with 300 dollars I know I am very restricted for my selection.

What, if anything can I get for 300 dollars or less that would be a decent bike? I ran across a gentleman selling a 2005 GT mountain bike with cyclops trainer and road tires/accessories (odometer, etc) in a package deal for 250. I did a small research and it seems that would be a really excellent deal. Must I check it out? Or any other recommendations? It’s been awhile and I want to jump back into it now that I have located some excellent trails within an hours drive of my new location.
